Discount Methods

AmeriCommerce allows you to apply specialized discounts to customer orders.  Discount Methods can be found through Global Settings > Discount Methods. Any number of marketing tool discounts can be created, such as:

First, you must decide whether you want to Edit an existing discount method or create a New Method. From that point, you may add a new method name and or select a method from the dropdown menu to edit.

  • Method is Active: Refers to a discount currently activated. Leave this box unchecked if you do not want the discount to be available to customers at this time.
  • Method is Strict: This box is checked by default and forces ALL Discount Rules to be followed for the method to be applied. If you have five rules, all of them must be true for the customer to receive the discount. Unchecking the box allows for the discount to be applied if only one rule out of a group is true. There is no way to mix and match rules (e.g. you can't have five rules and allow the discount if three rules are satisfied).  To accomplish this you would need two methods for the item, one addressing the rules that ALL must be followed and another method for rules where ANY can be followed.
  • Use Only Once Per Customer: Sets the discount to expire after the customer's first use.
  • Expires: Selects whether the discount is ongoing or will be discontinued.
  • Expiration Date: The ending date of the sale.
  • Discount: Allows you to subtract an amount from the subtotal or shipping costs.  This also permits adding an item to the order as a complimentary gift.

Once you are through making changes, remember to click on Update Method. You may also delete the entire sale by clicking on Delete Method.

Discount Rules

The Discount Rules define exactly what must be followed for the method to be activated. You may Edit, Delete, or create New rules. After creating or editing your rule, Update Rule to save any changes. Some rules involve specific instructions, which are outlined under the Discount Rules area.  Make sure to adhere to these instructions to prevent errors with your discount.

Individual Store Discounts

It should be noted that the Rule Options allow you to apply a discount to just one of your stores by selecting "Store" under the If Parameters. Your stores list will appear to the right, and selecting the appropriate store will apply the discount to that store only.

Free and Discounted Items

In the event, you would like to give a FREE product with a purchase or a discount on an item, create a new method and follow these instructions:

1. Name the New Method
2. If you want the product to be FREE, select "add item" under Discount. If you want the product to be discounted, select "subtract" from the drop-down menu and fill in the desired amount.
3. Click Update Method.
4. Click New Rule.
5. If the discount applies to any purchase of this item, the total dollars is greater than 0.
6. Click New Rule.
7. If an item in cart is equal to "Item Number" or "SKU".  If your products do not have an item number or SKU, you will need to create one for this discount process. To find the SKU or set one for the item, continue through the following steps.
8. If your item HAS a SKU, search for your product in Catalog > Search Products. The item number will be listed in the results. Proceed to step 13.
9. If your item does NOT have a SKU, navigate to Catalog > Edit Catalog > and find your product.
10. Enter the Product Editor.

12. Insert an Item Number/SKU located on the top row in the General tab.
13. Enter the Item Number and Update Rule. Check the method settings and see if you have set an Expiration Date. If you have not selected an Expiration Date, this product will always be discounted. Update the method to save all your changes.
